In the past, people stored knowledge in books. However, people are storing knowledge on the internet. Do advantages of this outweigh its disadvantages?

People used to store knowledge in books. However, with the rapid development of the internet, knowledge storage is gradually appearing on the internet. Although the information remains mostly the same despite the different mediums, this new storage option is efficient and safe. From my perspective, it is more beneficial to keep knowledge in all walks of life online.
To begin with, the internet easily facilitates the widespread dispersal of knowledge by allowing speedy sharing of information around the world. As the speed of knowledge acquisition is accelerated, users can more readily seek out answers to their questions on the net. Otherwise, if knowledge is stored solely in books, quick answers may not be obtained by anxious learners due to limitations on time and accessibility. To be specific, electronic database with a powerful server can be searched through a query in a couple of seconds on millions of records. It is hard to imagine how much time it would take to go manually in books.
Furthermore, as the process of learning becomes more focused upon making connections and relating resources to different disciplines, knowledge on the internet can be found by moving directly to a topic, rather than searching through a text. In other words, the online format of the knowledge brings learners directly to the necessary information with fewer diversions. More importantly, in the event of fires, floods, or tornadoes, books may be severely destroyed or damaged, while knowledge stored on the internet is still secure and safe.
In summary, besides efficiency and safety, benefits of preserving knowledge on the internet are innumerable. It is a well-known fact that knowledge storage must continue to move towards technology in order to keep pace with knowledge itself. Therefore, storing knowledge on the net is an irreversible trend in the future.
