It is undeniable that parents have influence on children. However, when kids start school, teachers tremendously affect them by developing their intelligence and imparting a plurality of abilities to get along with others and to create and maintain satisfying relationships.
I quite approve of the standpoint that teachers exert more influence than parents do on children’s intellectual and social development as soon as kids begin to obtain education at school.
To begin with, teachers are professionally trained to work with children in a positive and constructive manner, so they can motivate kids to learn in the classroom, which is of great importance to promote their intellectual development.
Once students begin school, teachers launch them on a quest to the timeless reservoir of knowledge, from basic literacy to true proficiency. Since teachers expose kids to the ever-flowing river of new information at school, they have greater impact on children’s intellectual development.
Furthermore, school education plays an essential role in developing kids’ social skills such as displaying good manners, communicating effectively with peers, being considerate of the feelings of others and expressing personal needs and so forth. All these components of social skills are mainly taught by different teachers at different stages of children’s growth. To be specific, at school, teachers are able to create abundant opportunities for kids to practice social skills by role-playing tricky situations, planning strategies ahead of time for tough situations, or arranging appropriate activities. Therefore, teachers have more effect on children’s social development.
In conclusion, since teachers can help children become more competent, comfortable and confident in academic and social situations by their well-trained guidance and instruction, there is no dispute that teachers have more influence on children intellectually and socially.
