Women taking maternity leave is known as a default practice in many countries in the world these days. Recently there appear some voices challenging this policy. The opponents contend that the drawbacks of this routine outweigh the strengthes. From my perspective, I side with the advocates’ view.
Although maternity break might lead to the reduction of the new mom’s income, disturbances of the personnel arrangement of the company in question and cause the adapting pains of women when they come back to the labor market so on and so forth, this traditional welfare to women could do them a load of benefits. First, it can help the women who have just reproduced an infant to better recover from the child birth labor both physiologically and psychologically. The reason is that instead of returning to the office doing their challenging duty immediately after the baby is born, women can stay at home being nicely looked after by the home nurses and the family members. Second, being at home all day, the baby can be better cared for by providing them with milk, clothing and company. Third, with a healthy and satisfactory mom and her happy and strong new born baby, both the family and the community can enjoy stronger harmony and stability.
In sum, the upsides of women taking maternity leave outweigh the downsides in my opinion. As for the issue of women lagged behind professionally due to prolonged maternity leave, women can try to update their knowledge and skill by themselves while staying at home taking care of their babies and they could also try flexible working time through networking online. （295 words)
