第一周:建立关系 Week 1: Building Relationships

In Week 1, we're starting off with one of the most important concepts in fundraising--building relationships. Too often we see donors through the distorted lens of retention rates and giving capacity.

第一周引导问题 Guiding Questions for Week 1:

讲故事在募资当中的价值是什么?
为什么倾听是要钱的时候最重要的技能?
你与潜在捐助者的关系如何影响你的战略?
What is the value of storytelling in fundraising?
Why is listening the most important skill in asking for money?
How does your relationship with a potential donor affect your strategy?

作业 Assignment:

自我画像
In this first assignment, you'll complete a self-reflection of your own fundraising capacity. You have listened to my own successes and shortcomings in the videos above. It's important, however, for you to do the same assessment.

Identify 2 personal fundraising strengths.
Identify 2 personal fundraising areas of improvement.
Describe a time when you've encountered one of the topics from the lecture this week: getting to know your donor, learning to listen, turning advice into money, or being too close to ask.

第二周:跟随习俗,战胜恐惧 Week 2: Following Conventions & Overcoming Fears

In Week 2, we will look at standard protocol for soliciting donations, as well as suggestions for overcoming the associated anxiety moments that come with asking for money.

第二周引导问题 Guiding Questions for Week 2:

When is it okay to say no to funding?
What are the five anxiety moments?
Why is it important to protect your donor list?

作业 Assignment:

Draft an email to Tom Wolf (between 2-3 paragraphs) asking to discuss a potential program he might be interested in funding.
Make sure your email displays some personalization--Tom should feel like you have done your research on his background.
Make sure you describe your program in an interesting and relevant way. You can make up a program, but we encourage to use one of your actual programs from your organization!
Make sure you have a specific ask--scheduling a meeting, or a phone call, or a request for some advice.

Bonus: A select few emails will be shared with Tom, who will respond personally to your request in your email.

第三周:修正错误,处理异议 Week 3: Correcting Mistakes & Handling Disappointment

In Week 3, we will discuss how to prepare to correct mistakes and handle disappointment when it comes to fundraising.

第三周指导问题 Guiding Questions for Week 3:

What is the importance of including the funder's children in your strategy?
Why might a potential funder say no?
How do you deal with disappointment and how do you correct your mistakes

讨论 Discussion Activity:

Share one of your own disappointments with fundraising on the discussion thread.
Read a few examples from your peers.
Comment on at least one post offering advice for next time.
Week 4: Is Your Organization Ready for Fundraising?
In Week 4, we answer the key question: is your organization ready for fundraising?

第四周指导问题 Guiding Questions for Week 4:

Why are the mission, values and brand of organization important for fundraising?
What distinguishes a high quality case for support?
What are the strengths of your people that might appeal to a funder?
How can you make planning and evaluation a cost-effective and ongoing part of the way your organization operates?

作业 Assignment:

Select an organization on which you'll perform a fundraising diagnostic. You may use an organization from one of your teams, or you may select an example organization by selecting an annual report from the provided list.
Pick at least five categories from the following checklist to determine the selected organization's preparedness to fundraise: mission, values, brand and image, case for support, people, finances, and planning and evaluation.

第五周:准备不同筹款预案 Week 5: Preparing for Different Types of Funding

In Week 5, we'll walk through some of the different types of support you might encounter. Whether you are planning a fundraising event or soliciting from foundations, we'll let you know the best practices that will help you increase your development impact.

第五周指导问题 Guiding Questions for Week 5:

How will you be able to be sure the basic expenses of the organization are covered through unrestricted income?·
What types of support has your organization been successful with in the past?
What types of new support might work for your organization?
How can you prioritize your strategies for different donor types for maximum success? Where should you put the most emphasis?

Assignment: Imagine you are preparing a fundraising plan for the year. Describe which sources you will pursue and in which months different fundraising efforts will be scheduled. Be sure you and those helping you will have adequate time to do each fundraising task you have outlined well and in time.

第六周:撰写项目书 Week 6: Proposal Writing

In Week 6, we will break down the components that make up an excellent grant proposal. You will learn to clarify and align your abstract, goals, and objectives. You will draft a program description and capability statement. And finally, you will come up with an evaluation plan, and learn how to create custom-designed budgets.

第六周指导问题 Guiding Questions for Week 6:

What distinguishes a great grant proposal from a mediocre one?
What are the critical elements that must be in the abstract or introduction?
How should goals and objectives relate to a proposed evaluation strategy?
What is the most effective way to describe the activity for which you are raising money
What is the best strategy for creating your budget?

Assignment: Do some internet research and select a foundation, corporation or government agency that looks like it might be a good prospect to support an organization or project of your choice. Write a proposal for that funder that you think will be effective. For this assignment, you are not required to submit the budget section, just the narrative. Please try to keep your proposal to no more than three pages.

大作业选项1:Final Project Option 1: Capital Campaigns

We'll learn about the first steps in developing an effective nonprofit strategy: defining the problem that you're trying to solve and identifying relevant stakeholders.

What can I expect from a feasibility study?
What are the elements of an effective case statement
